  • Sentier des Maîtres du Mont Déserté
In 1931, a natural disaster struck Garins, when heavy rainfall caused part of the mountain collapsed, destroying various hamlets and leading to an equally-destructive mudslide.
On the upper part of the site, extensive drainage works and plantations have taken place, and the site is themed around the 'Maîtres du Mont Déserté'. Further downstream are impressive deposit beaches, built to prevent future mudslides.

2 nature walks follow the traces of a relatively recent natural disaster, and let you see the engineering works deployed to prevent another catastrophe, through the legend of the 'Maîtres du Mont Déserté'.
Both loops can be accessed from Châtelard. For the upper loop of the Garins, access is possible by car to the hamlet of Garins, via the small road which departs from the southern exit of the Village du Châtelard. For the lower loop, access via the tennis courts along the road opposite the Collège des Bauges from Châtelard.
All year round.
